FRIGS SOLID STATE

Resting in that happy meeting place between Joy Division’s atmospheric post-punk and Sonic Youth’s wiry American rock, FRIGS bring a welcome melodic element to ‘Solid State’. The thundering drums are heavy on the toms as metallic guitars wane on top of a bellowing bass line, before breaking out into an absolute belter of a chorus. Singer Brianna Salmena’s icy cool vocals mutter through the verses and explode into an adrenaline-inducing build-up towards the end of the track, resembling Savages’ incredible front woman Jehnny Beth. Discussing the track Salmena said, "Lyrically, 'Solid State' is a stream-of-consciousness/subconscious conversation with myself, effectively more a confessional than a diary entry." 'Solid State' is the fourth and final offering before the arrival of the Toronto-based 4-piece's debut album Basic Behaviour, which comes out on the 23rd of February via Arts & Crafts. -HLMX
